Rooted in Body Trust: Why This Isn’t Your Average Therapy Value

If Soma Roots Therapy were a sandwich, “Body Trust” would be the artisanal bread—chewy, nourishing, and maybe a little bit wild around the edges. (Gluten-free metaphors available upon request.) Throughout the many years of grad school and beyond, I continued searching for where I fit amongst the therapy field and its colonial, white supremacy, and male-dominated origins. When I stopped trying to “fit” and I realized that real healing starts when we risk listening to our bodies, even when they’re whispering, grumbling, or, let’s face it, full-on screaming for attention.

What Does Body Trust Even Mean Here?

Body Trust, as defined by the Center for Body Trust, isn’t about perfect health, a flawless meditation practice, or mastering the downward dog. It’s about finding a way back into relationship with your own body—especially after years or lifetimes of being told your body was the problem rather than the source of your wisdom. Soma Roots Therapy is built on the radical notion that your body’s been your co-pilot all along, even if society sometimes hands it a very questionable map.

A Value, and a Vibe

In our little corner of the therapy world, building Body Trust looks a lot like making friends with your quirks, learning to listen for subtle “yes” or “no” signals, and sometimes moving through the messiest moments with a generous dose of compassion for the process. We start small—titration and pendulation, as the somatic folks say—and build from your own lived experience, your nervous system’s language, your story. We believe everyone deserves to feel safe, welcome, and at home in their body, whether you’re neurotypical, neurodivergent, queer, straight, trans, nonbinary, cisgender, or just creatively assembled.

Rawness Required, Humor Encouraged

We know that reclaiming body trust is not a spa day. It requires guts, grit, and a willingness to celebrate every micro-triumph (like noticing you’re actually breathing when anxious!). Around here, we’re rooting for you, especially when rooting feels complicated. Your body is your history book, and you get to write the next pages with more tenderness and less shame. Therapy is the place for weird breakthroughs, awkward silences, and healing that arrive one exhale at a time.

If you’re craving a therapy space where your body’s wisdom is honored, your identity is mirrored, and healing happens on all levels—Soma Roots Therapy is rooting for you.
