Gender-Affirming Surgery Assessments
We offer gender-affirming surgery assessments, in accordance with WPATH Standards of Care v8 and informed consent principles.
A few things we want you to know upfront:
These assessments are collaborative, not gatekeeping. The goal is not to determine whether you are "trans enough" or to put you through an obstacle course to prove your gender. The goal is to support you in accessing the care you've already determined you need, and to provide the documentation your surgical team requires to move forward.
We approach these assessments with a clear understanding that the role of the mental health provider is not to grant permission — it is to offer a thoughtful, affirming clinical perspective that supports your autonomy and your access to care. You are the expert on your own gender. We're here to help you get where you're trying to go.
Assessments typically include:
A clinical interview
A review of relevant history and current functioning
A written letter suitable for surgical consultation and insurance purposes
Space to ask questions, process feelings about the process, and go at a pace that feels okay
We recognize that assessment requirements can feel dehumanizing — that being asked to "prove" your gender to access medical care is itself a harm rooted in systems that were not designed with trans people's wellbeing in mind. We hold that reality honestly, and we work to make this process as dignified, affirming, and efficient as possible.
Assessments are available to Oregon and Washington residents. If you have questions about the process, cost, or timeline, reach out — we're happy to talk it through before you commit to scheduling.
